Educational Philosophy

Education is an amazing phenomenon. We learn things everyday whether we are in the classroom or just hanging out with friends. To get an education or to be educated in a specific area is to gain knowledge and knowledge is power. I think education is the most important intangible thing anyone can ever receive.

My personal philosophy on education in the classroom is that it should be fun. Kids like to do things that are fun. If we give them a football, basketball, or dolls, they would excel at playing with them. The same is true for the classroom. If we teach a subject that isn’t as fun as balls or dolls, we should teach it in a way that is as fun as balls or dolls. That way, the kids will be into what you have to say and ultimately learn whatever it is that you are teaching.

A variety of different things other than math, science, English, and history can be taught in the classroom. I think at this point in time, tolerance, respect, and acceptance of others should be emphasized in the classroom. With everything that is going on in our country, it is vital at every grade level for this to be emphasized in the classroom.

Children are not all the same and they learn at different paces and by different means. As a teacher, it is my job to reach all the children no matter what level they are on. Some children may be visual learners as well as audio or kinesthetic. I need to provide lessons that do all three. My role is to be the mentor that every child needs. My role is to teach children everything they need to know and lots more. It is my job to make every child feel like they have a purpose in life and that they are important individuals.

I believe that a teacher needs to set goals for his/herself as well as for their students. If both the student and the teacher are working towards a particular goal, I think it will make the teaching and learning process more effective.
